3D Nested Type

Illustrator | Shapr3D | 3D Printing

For this project, I designed a nested-type composition based on a quote that has always resonated with me: “You have to be weird to survive.” I began by creating the typography in Adobe Illustrator, focusing on the structure and interlocking shapes needed for a clean 3D build.

From there, I learned how to bring a 2D design into a 3D workflow by importing my Illustrator file into Shapr3D. This introduced me to the fundamentals of 3D modeling—extruding shapes, refining angles, and ensuring the design would print smoothly without weak points. After confirming the structure was sound, I exported the finished model for 3D printing, transforming the quote into a physical, dimensional piece.

This project pushed me to bridge graphic design with product design, giving me hands-on experience with converting flat artwork into a fully realized 3D object.
