Framed Display Typeface
Glyphs | Variable Font | Typeface
Framed is a variable typeface I designed to mimic the look and feel of picture frames. Each letterform has a structured, box-like appearance, giving the typeface the ability to literally “frame” small images, textures, or design elements within its shapes. The project was meant to explore how typography can function both as text and as a visual container.
Throughout this process, I worked entirely in Glyphs, building every character from scratch inside the program. Many designers start in Illustrator and then copy their shapes over, but I wanted to construct this font natively so I could control every corner, segment, and anchor point. Getting the variable system to work smoothly meant making sure all masters were compatible—matching points, identical path directions, and clean interpolation across the entire alphabet.
After final testing, I packaged Framed as a complete variable font and made it available for free on my website. With a single button click, anyone can download the typeface and start using it to experiment with framed letterforms in their own creative projects.
