Spray Paint Style Study
Spray Techniques | Style Emulation | Color Matching
This project explored the concept of “biting” a design style—recreating another artist’s visual language purely for learning and experimentation. I studied the work of Jeroo, a member of the JDI crew from Germany, focusing specifically on his spray-paint alphabet and the stylistic rhythms that define his lettering.
Before ever touching a spray can, I learned how to analyze and digitally mimic his approach to form, spacing, and flow. A major part of the process involved digitally color-matching my design using real spray paint swatches, ensuring the final piece would closely reflect my digital mockup once the cans arrived.
From there, I practiced proper spray paint techniques—controlling pressure, layering colors, and understanding how paint behaves on a large surface. The final result is a piece that captures the spirit of Jeroo’s style while giving me hands-on experience with graffiti-inspired typography, analog materials, and color translation from screen to physical artwork.
